I am not a designer who learned to code. I am an information systems person who learned that the technology was never the point.
I ran a local business for nearly a decade.
Before DMX Digital, I ran Wye Oak Mobile Device Repair out of the Amish Market in Easton. It was supposed to be a mobile device repair shop. It turned into something closer to "yes, I fix that too." Microsoldering iPhone boards, migrating data off legacy systems, repairing CMM machines running FreeDOS, troubleshooting 25-year-old computers, replacing CCFL bulbs in custom HMI displays. The work that made other technicians uncomfortable was usually the work I found most interesting.
Running a real local business taught me things most web designers never learn. Customers do not care about technology. They care about whether you show up, whether you are honest, and whether the thing works when you hand it back. They also want to know who they are dealing with. Many of my Wye Oak customers became friends I still keep in touch with today. That is not something I planned. It is just what happens when you treat people like people.
I sold the business in 2025.
How I work
I listen until I actually understand.
A client named Mike came to me on a referral. He had already talked to five people and one large agency about his website. Nobody had impressed him. I spent an hour and a half asking him questions, then stopped and said: let me summarize what you just told me. Correct me if I got anything wrong. He looked at me and said none of the others had done that. He hired me on the spot.
That is the job. Not the code. Not the platform. Listening until you actually understand, then building something that reflects what the business owner is trying to say.
What I build.
I build plain, durable websites for local businesses, writers, ministries, campaigns, independent publishers, and people who need a clear home on the web. Starter sites for businesses that need a professional first presence. Service pages that explain what you do and make it easy to contact you. Static sites that load fast, stay secure, and do not require a subscription to a platform you do not own.
The largest project currently running under the DMX Digital umbrella is Your Good News, a content-first local publication for Easton and Talbot County. It runs on Hugo, not WordPress. Nearly 80 percent of readers arrive on mobile. The site is built around that reality: fast loading, clean headlines, no tracking-heavy scripts, no rotating ads. It is a more demanding build than a typical business page, and it is the clearest example of how I work.
